Chapel of St. John the Old
One of José Coelho’s most important and well-known works is his 1941 monograph *Memoirs of Viseu: The Parish of St. Salvador and the Extinct Municipality of Barreiro*.
Among the vast amount of historical and archaeological notes and information about the city and region of Viseu, the study of the small Chapel of St. John the Old, located in Vildemoinhos, on the western outskirts of the city, deserves special attention.
This monument is considered an example of medieval architecture of the greatest importance to the city, because, besides the cathedral, the Chapel of St. John the Old is the only Gothic-style church that still remains in the entire municipality.
